VBCW Chain of Command

Played another game of Chain of Command today but using Very British Civil War forces this time. I played with my usual VBCW gamer but by the end he didn't seem to be too happy with the rules still preferring Bolt Action.

For me Bolt Action has a certain appeal of simple gaming rules that don't have much thinking for the gamer. I switched to CoC as i felt as i needed something that was missing and i was hooked after my first game and the more i play the better i feel they get. I know rules don't get the same appeal for everyone but ill certainly be sticking with Chain of Command.

The game was Scottish Covenanters v Glasgow Red Clydesiders. I had to make up my own army lists and also split the force experience of the Platoon to give it that more VBCW slant. We also had some armour on the table as well.

It started off well for the Covenanters but the layout of the terrain meant that we had to move more than i had wanted including moving my MMG closer to the enemy and ultimately within firing range of them as well. The reds MMG was in a prime position and got to lay down alot of fire on the Covenanters probably more than should have been allowed in the rules :)

Some good interuptions using the Chain of Command points worked in my favour but the damn MMG broke two of my squads and turned the game against me.

Good game that i enjoyed but i guess ill need to get someone else into VBCW as i going back to Bolt Action doesn't appeal to me at all.

Taliban Amubush (Skirmish Sangin) and a thank you

Played my first ever moderns game using Skirmish Sangin rules. Very good game to play if a little uncomfortable due being a little to close to home but it's a game.

The rules are for small scale so we basically had 8 figures a side with the Taliban waiting in Amush for my Infantry patrol.

First fire went to the Taliban who took out one of my squad leaders with a sniper shot. Thankfully all went against the Taliban after that. The Minime tore them up with it taking top gun of the bout. Due to good movement into cover and some good shooting from my 2 Scots the Taliban soon started racking up the casualties.

With the less men they had the harder they became to hit and they were able to get another hit on the patrol with one squaddie taking a serious wound.

My least valued rifleman was able to bring it all to end with a wonder hit on a well defended Taliban foot soldier. Amazing considering my top soldiers kept on hit nothing against the last guy.

Over all a good game and ill be playing more for sure. Might try out Force on Force for larger scale games. Now to paint my other British and SAS, make a compound and make they Range Rovers :)

AWI game that was on at the club and looked really good.

A special thanks goes to Loki at for this great give away that he had on his blog. I was drawn from a hat to win this beauty and it not sits proudly on my book shelf with my other treasured minis.

Ronin Buntai

Here are my two Buntai that i have painted for Ronin games. I'm never going to do Samurai on a large scale as i don't have enough enthusiasm to do it so this level of games is perfect for me.

Played a game of Ronin a few weeks ago and loved it. I never took pictures of the game as i shamefully played the game with half painted figures....oh the shame!!!!

The Koryu are based on the Seven Samurai movie characters and also the fantastic paint guide by Kevin Dallimore.

For the Bushi Buntai i was unsure about Clans for the Mon so i made my own......Well kind of. I'm a big follower of Hamburger SV as my 2nd team and go over to Germany at least once a year to see the team. When i was looking for ideas i was thinking well they will be blue for sure and then i thought of the HSV badge and how it looks like a Japanese Mon. So i now have my own HSV Buntai :)

Overall im ok with these minis but after taking pictures i was slightly disappointed as i always feel they look much better in the flesh than the camera.

Next up should be my first 12 Border Reivers from Crann Tara and i have just started the first squad of my 7th Batt Kings Own Scottish Borderers Paratroopers for Oosterbeek.
