28th Foot - Battle of Quebec

Finished my first Unit for the Quebec Project. Next up will be a French Unit i think.

Here is a little history of the Regiment in the French and Indian War.

In 1758, the regiment took part in the amphibious expedition against the fortress of Louisbourg in Canada. It embarked on April 17 and arrived at Halifax on May 9. The expedition was under the command of general Amherst. On June 8, when Amherst's army landed near Louisbourg, the regiment was part of the left brigade under Lawrence. Between June and July, the regiment, held in reserve, took part in the siege of Louisbourg which surrendered on July 27. After the capture of the fortress, the regiment remained there as part of the garrison.
In 1759, the regiment took part to the amphibious expedition against Québec, it belonged to brigadier-general Townsend's brigade. On June 27, the army landed on Isle-d'Orléans and were drawn up on the beach near the village of Saint-Laurent. On July 9, a skirmish occurred near the Montmorency fall. Dank's Rangers were attacked and defeated by a party of Canadians and Ottawa Indians who was in turn repulsed by the grenadiers of the 28th Foot. On July 31, the grenadiers of the regiment took part to the failed attack on the shores of Beauport, suffering heavy losses in the fight. Late in the evening of September 12, 300 men of the regiment formed part of the first 1,700 men who were ordered from the British vessels above Québec into bateaux in preparation for a landing at Anse-au-Foulon. On September 13, the regiment led the way when the army climbed the heights of Québec. It then took part in the battle of the Plains of Abraham near Québec where it was placed on the right flank. General Wolfe charged at its head. On September 18, Québec finally surrendered. At the end of October, when vice-admiral Saunders left with his fleet for Great Britain, the regiment, whose ranks had been replenished to about 650 men by drafts from the 62nd Foot and 69th Foot, remained as garrison in Québec along with 9 other battalions.

FIW Indians and Provincials

Needed some more Indians and finished my last batch of Provincials. This time it was some Pennsylvanian Provincials and i tried some different War paint combos. I think i might make up a guide of different Indian War designs.

Redoubt Woodland Indians- These were really nice to paint and great figures. I still need to add the burning torches and muskets to the raiders.

Galloping Major Pennsylvanian Provincials- I don't need to explain again how much i love these minis and i really wanted some as Penn Provincials. They have drawn most of there  men from the local Ulster Scots population and will i have confidence they will put up a good fight given that the Ulster Scots were born fighting.

Here is a small comparison of the Galloping Major and Redoubt. They fit pretty well to me.

Assassins Creed 3 for FIW Ideas

I have been playing this game for the last couple of nights when i can steal the tv from the wife.

I have always enjoyed the series so I'm loving this one as it's in a period of great interest. It's starts off at the beginning of the French and Indian War and works it way through to the American War of Independence.

Now there are loads of issues with the Uniforms etc but as with all AC games the scenery is awesome. From being in Boston to the Wilderness it's great. It has given me lots of ideas for scenery to include in my games with a great Log Fort and also the Indian villages etc.

I'm not keen on killing Red Coats and even less keen on how we have been made out to be the Big Bad British as usual but hey it's only a game. I accidently killed George Washington and to start one of my missions again. So far it's a good game with questionable elements but i won't let that get in the way.

If you haven't played it and you are into console games you should get a copy of it.

Has anyone played Dreadball or X-Wing?

I'm thinking seen as it's Christmas i might treat myself to one of these games but at the moment I'm not sure what one to get.

First of all i don't know anyone who plays either but i guess i could convince someone to play a game at the club. I would like to buy a game rather than a new wargames project.

I never played Bloodbowl or anything so have no experience of games like Dreadball but i think it's cool and used to love playing Speedball as a kid.

has anyone played either of these games and give recommendations to convince me :D

Why oh why do i do it?

Yip i have got more figures that i really shouldn't be getting as i have loads of others stuff to paint but what the hell.

First up is some of the fantastic 70's Hooligans from Col Bill and Ainsty. Stu from Col Bill's told me about these sometime back and i couldn't wait to get them. Mine will be getting painted as some Old Rangers lads and have them reenact the Glories of taking the Stretford End. Stu has also told me that they are working on some rules for them at the moment.

I have already told him i want some 80's Casuals.

Next up is some Gladiators. Stu had a couple of bags of them which i dually took off him and i also have another 12 on the way from a member on LAF. That should be more than enough to get some game going. I just need to get some rules now with a number of options available but im open to suggestions.Martin from Warbases has also popped a few Hex bases in the post for me, so once i get them they will be getting based and primed.

New FIW Additions

Finally got sometime to take pictures tonight of the newly painted stuff. The Rangers and Indians have already been in a battle and only the Rangers put on any sort of performance with talking about.

Huron Warriors from Galloping Major. I still have a load of these to paint but i have started on another 12 Indians from Redoubt first.

Northstar British Indian Allies along with one Galloping Major Mohawk. I used a micro pen to do the small detail war paint and i like the affect it has given. If only they did them in white i'd be laughing.

Gorham's Rangers using the Rangers from the Northstar British Wilderness boxset. I'll prob add another highlight to these figures as i used a base layer and a dip to quickly get them ready for a game.

Now for my favourite figures I've painted and what i also think is my best paint job. I love these figures and have told lance this on a weekly basis. They are painted as Virginia Provincial's in their late Uniform and i hope they do the business next week. All i need now is two Standard Bearers and a George Washington to lead them. I have almost finished another unit of the figures that will be used as Pennsylvania Provincials.

VBCW Faction: Solemn League and Covenant

For the games that I play this will be my main Faction going forward. They are based mostly around Ayrshire and Lanarkshire drawing their support from the Kirk and her Flock.

Beliefs: GOD ABOVE ALL!!! Mostly devout Presbyterian but willing to listen to any others from the other Reformed faiths...well maybe not the Episcopalians  . I’m thinking maybe supports of Albert and a United Kingdom if he can agree to some conditions on the Kirk but main aim is to re-affirm the Bible and Presbyterian way on society and save the country from heathen influences from Rome and Moscow.

Based: Ayrshire and Lanarkshire with Units coming from in from Ulster and other areas of support in Scotland.

Force: Made up of a Covenanter Army in Grey jackets, Black trousers and Blue bonnets. They will also have Militia from local Boys Brigade Groups (older members), Kirk members, Loyal Orders, Farmers and also their Ulster Scots brethren in Ireland. Supplies coming from gun caches in Ulster and funding from America and Canada along with wealthy Kirk members wanting to see the influence of the Kirk re affirmed on Scottish society.

Enemy: Pretty much anyone who will get in the way of their Godly Beliefs. High up on the list is the Fascists, Romanists, Communists but still have and give support to some believers in the Labour movement.

PSALM 124
If the LORD had not been on our side—
let Israel say—
if the LORD had not been on our side
when people attacked us,
they would have swallowed us alive
when their anger flared against us;
the flood would have engulfed us,
the torrent would have swept over us,
the raging waters
would have swept us away.
Praise be to the LORD,
who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
We have escaped like a bird
from the fowler’s snare;
the snare has been broken,
and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

Muskets and Tomahawks Game

Played my first game of Muskets and Tomahawks today and really enjoyed it. I've been waiting long enough to play it and I wish i had played it sooner.

There is certain things that will take time to fully get but I'm looking forward to the next one. One thing i was slightly disappointed with is that there is no French Unit that can be made Elite like the Rangers. I would have thought that the Marines could be made this but they are considered just Regulars. The Marines shooting was also disappointing as it's lower than the Canadian Milice.

The put my Rogers Rangers, new Goreham's Rangers and New Mohawk Indian Allies against some Candian Milice and Huron.

We just tried out an engagement as our first attempt and after my Indians doing some good shoot against a larger Indian Unit to being with we stupidly went in hand to hand just to see how it worked out. It didn't end well with my whole Unit getting wiped out.

I had my Goreham's Rangers up front in wood cover and my large Rogers Rangers holding off in the back. The Milice came up close in the open to be met by devastating fire from both my Ranger units causing them to pretty much be a useless unit and didn't stay on the table much after that.

The game end up a win for myself and my British.

I'll want to try out some of the other aspects of the game next time and hope the improvement continues.

VBCW using Bolt Action

A couple of pics from a game we played using Bolt Action two weeks ago. It put m Solemn League and Covenant forces against Glasgow Red Clydesiders. I enjoyed playing the rules as they went quite fast and were simple to pick up. In two weeks we be using some chance cards with the rules to see if it can spice it up a little.

Chief Chingachgook passes away.

Some sad news regarding Russel Means who has passed away.

Full Story (Daily Mail)

Russell Means, a former American Indian Movement activist who helped lead a 1973 uprising against the U.S. government and appeared in several Hollywood films, has died. He was 72.

Means died early Monday at his ranch in South Dakota, Oglala Sioux Tribe spokeswoman Donna Solomon said.
Means announced in August 2011 that he had developed inoperable throat cancer and was forgoing mainstream medical treatments in favor of traditional American Indian remedies and alternative treatments away from his home on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

One of the Greatest fight scenes in a film and the reason as a kid that the French and Indian War has interested me until this day.

Great Spirit, Maker of All Life. A warrior goes to you swift and straight as an arrow shot into the sun. Welcome him and let him take his place at the council fire of my people. He is Uncas, my son. Tell them to be patient and ask death for speed; for they are all there but one - I, Chingachgook - Last of the Mohicans.

VBCW New Recruits

Just some of my new recruits to my VBCW ranks.

First up is an Anglican Monk that was donated to me by a top gent call Lee (daywalker) on the Steve Dean forum.

Some posties that will be used in my Glasgow battles but can be used in any front really.
With so many Italians in Glasgow i felt i had to have some Italians who have been supplied by the Fascist Government in their Motherland.  The picture below is a picture of the Italian Blackshirt marching in Glasgow in the 30's and gave inspiration for this unit. I need to get a flag bearer so they can have some colours on display.

Also painted some Armour support. Painted them generic so they can be used for any side. I have also drilled some holes in them so that i can attached flags for what ever side i wish.
